Ladies Walk Eden Hall
An easy walk for families that want to enjoy time away with their young ones and pooches, this dog walk is only 3.5km circular and boasts fantastic views of the Eden Valley. Filled with greenery and lovely landscapes, this walk is great for those looking to ease into family trips and activities.
Helton Fell to Arthurs Pike
One of James’ all-time favourite walks, the views from the top of the Helton Fell to Arthurs Pike walk are nothing short of spectacular, ideal for dog walkers who enjoy the fantastic scenery during a walk.
This isn’t a hard climb with only 300m of elevation, however, the long and steady 7.5 mile walk can seem intimidating to some although most will find it easy going. This walk has easy-to-follow paths and is family-friendly for those with older children who like outdoor activity.
Helton - Loadpot Hill Circular
With breathtaking views throughout the whole route, the Loadpot Hill Circular walk has easy-to-follow paths and is not too steep, with a total distance of 12 miles and an elevation of 2300ft, James has rated the difficulty of this walk 3/5, but the enjoyment 5/5!
Hartsop - Angle Tarn Circular via Hayeswater
Also a fantastic walk with some great views, this walk is known for its muddy paths and some very steep parts. Dog walkers with medium to large dogs may be best suited to this walk, with a total elevation of 1800ft and a distance of 7 miles.
This route has varied paths, some are very muddy and slippery – usually a great walk for dogs that enjoy rolling around in the mud and owners that don’t mind getting down and dirty.
Haweswater to High Street Circular
This is a great walk with some amazing views – it is steep in parts but not too challenging and very rewarding. There is plenty for dog walkers to see when they reach the top and is bound to tire your pup out.
A truly incredible place to be with an elevation of 2000ft and a distance of 5.5 miles.
Gowbarrow Fell
James claims that this has to be one of the most spectacular walks in the Lake District, and any dog walker who has taken this route before would agree. With majestic views of the Lakes and the incredible Aira Force waterfall, this dog walk is a must-see for all.
With a total enjoyment level of 5/5 and a distance of 5 miles, this not-too-challenging walk is ideal for those picturesque view seekers.
Glenridding – Helvellyn
Rated ‘the best dog walk ever’ by James Norris, this is a tough yet extremely rewarding dog walking route allowing walkers to take in the best that the Lake District has to offer.
On the way around, you will hike up the following - Stybarrow Dodd, Raise, Whiteside, Lower Man, Helvellyn, High Crag, Dollywaggon Pike and then drop down to Grisedale Tarn which is bound to cool you down on a hot day.
The total distance is 15 miles with an elevation of 1400m – this is an epic walk, not for those looking for an easy trek but ultimately will create lifetime memories for everyone involved – including your pooch.
James has tried and tested most of the dog walking routes across the Lake District and his recommendations include some of the best views, challenging walks and easy routes for families.
