Keswick Film Festival 2024

When: Feb 29th-3rd March

A Lake District highlight that has been an annual event since 2000, the Keswick Film Festival is an exciting opportunity to view an intriguing and diverse lineup of 25 top independent films from around the world. They are coupled with the Osprey Short Film Awards and appearances by special guests, creating an ideal spring weekend in Keswick. The films are spread out across the 3 venues, Theatre by The Lake, Alhambra, and Rheged, with some of the more sought-after films having multiple viewings. With 25 featured films including ‘Between the Lights’, ‘Lost in the Night’ and ‘The Taste of Things’ there is something for everyone!

Tickets for films across all venues can be conveniently purchased in advance through the Keswick Alhambra website. While any remaining tickets will be made available on the door before the screening, it is strongly recommended to book in advance to ensure availability and avoid disappointment. Stargazing at Near Howe

When: 1st-2nd March

Where: Near Howe, Mungrisdale, Penrith, Cumbria, CA11 0SH


Embark on a mesmerising journey through the starry skies of the Lake District National Park by joining one of the dedicated stargazing events, guided by an expert astronomer. The experience begins with an enlightening astronomical presentation, specially crafted for beginners and novices. Following this, venture outdoors for a laser-guided tour of the constellations. With the aid of telescopes and binoculars, participants will have the opportunity to observe planets, galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters, weather permitting. This event runs from 7.30pm- 9.30pm; as it is colder at night, bundle up and keep warm with our range of thermals and gloves.

Tickets for these enchanting stargazing events are limited and must be purchased in advance. Prices are £25 per adult (plus booking fee) and £15 per child (under 16), inclusive of hot drinks and biscuits. Additionally, accommodation packages are available for those interested in making it a weekend getaway.

Art Workshop: Screen Printing with Local Artist Ben Dodge

When: 4th March

Where: Armitt Library & Museum Centre, Rydal Rd, Ambleside, Cumbria, LA22 9BL


The Armitt Museum is hosting a screen-printing workshop featuring local artist Ben Dodge. This immersive session, guided by Ben, will lead participants through the fascinating world of screen printing, allowing each attendee to craft and take home their own personalised set of prints. The workshop includes two pre-selected designs, and participants can unleash their creativity by designing their own prints. These unique designs can be skilfully transferred onto high-quality print paper and/or textiles, offering a hands-on and artistic experience for all involved. Throughout the workshop, participants will have the chance to print each of the three designs onto print paper and up to three textiles/garments, resulting in a total of up to 6 printed items to cherish. Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for an ink-based workshop, and please note that participants must be 18 years or older to attend. All materials, (including refreshments) are provided by the workshop but attendees are required to bring up to three textiles/garments for printing (preferably natural fibres like a cotton t-shirt or hoody).

The Light District: SPACE – God, The Universe and Everything

When: 14-15th March

Where: St Bees Priory, Church, Saint Bees, Cumbria, CA27 0DR

SPACE: God, the Universe, and Everything draws inspiration from the historic 1969 Moon landings. Crafted by the acclaimed artistic collaboration Luxmuralis, this immersive experience invites participants on a walking journey through St Bees Priory. The installation unfolds the wonders of the universe, featuring galaxies, space, creation, and light through a captivating array of sound and light installations that will dynamically transform the Priory.


In conjunction with the captivating sound and light installations, Cumberland Council will enhance the atmosphere by deploying architectural lighting to accentuate the Priory and its surroundings, transforming it into a captivating beacon for the town. The event will feature designated time slots available between 6:30 pm and 9:00 pm each evening. Tickets are £4 with under 5s free entry.

The Grasmere 10K 2024 

When: 23rd March

Where: The Showfield, Stock Lane, Grasmere 

Trainers at the ready: this scenic run takes in Grasmere Village, Grasmere Water and Rydal Water. It is one of the most stunning routes you’re likely to run in the UK! This run is perfect for those who love to immerse themselves in the most picturesque scenery whilst challenging themselves physically and mentally. The event offers a 10km Trail Run for participants seeking a more challenging course, and for those new to trail running or desiring a shorter workout, there is also a 5km Trail Run available. This provides an inclusive opportunity for both experienced and novice runners to enjoy the trail run experience. Participants can look forward to receiving a medal, exclusive Wild Deer Merchandise (such as socks, a buff, or a gym bag), a snack, and a drink upon completion. The event boasts LIVE chip-timing, complimentary parking (weather-dependent, with charges for public parking in case of excessive wet conditions), and access to free toilets. Additionally, participants can enjoy free event photography.

For those interested, there is an option to purchase an event T-shirt for £10.00 when registering. This event is Canicross friendly (cross country running with dogs), allowing one dog per runner to partake in the experience.
